The Osage City Municipal Airport opened to the public in 1949. The airport is currently part of a capital improvement project primarily funded by the Federal Aviation Administration. The project will extend the runway to more than 4,000 feet long and 75 feet wide.
The airport serves two businesses, Hawkeye Helicopter and Skydive Kansas, and provides 24-hour AvGas by credit card.
Since 1995, Skydive Kansas has spotlighted Osage City as the skydive capital of Kansas, providing the unique experience of seeing the world from two miles up to people from all over the state, the U.S. and the world. The business has logged more than 45,000 jumps, pushing more than 600 first timers every year.
In 2014, the airport hosted a fly-in during Smoke in the Spring, inviting all pilots to visit Osage City during the annual barbecue festival and car show. Plans are in the works to have an annual fly-in at Osage City.
The existing runway is 2,560 feet long by 40 feet wide and runs north and south, located at the east edge of Osage City, Kansas 66523. GPS coordinates are 38.633437 -95.801792.
